José Urbano is a murdered drug dealer and repeat offender in New York City’s Puerto Rican community.

History[]

Urbano had a lengthy criminal record and multiple prison stints, including robbery, assault, and narcotics charges, once even for rape at age 15. Urbano still gave his sister Anita 100 dollars a week because of her daughter, his niece. Urbano, however, was also dishonest to his affiliates and rivals, refusing to pay debts and getting into squabbles. It all came to a head when Urbano raped Lucy Rivers. Her older sister Alicia gave her boyfriend Nicky Guzman her family’s gun to get revenge.

After Urbano got into a disagreement at a church fair with Hector Cartagena about another debt to him, Guzman unloaded the gun into Urbano’s torso and crotch in front of a crowd of witnesses, who kept quiet knowing who he was and what he was guilty of. Guzman was acquitted at trial when his lawyer, Chet Burton, tugged at the jury’s heart strings enough to make them sympathetic, arguing it was natural for Puerto Ricans to defend honor.
