Joseph Stabler, Jr. is one of the brothers of Detective Elliot Stabler.

History[]

Joey came from an Irish American Catholic family and has five siblings: three brothers and two sisters. His father and namesake, Joseph, Sr., was a police officer, but he lost his job and pension when he refused to testify about fellow police officers. Joseph's mother Bernadette suffered from bipolar disorder, a condition that one of his nieces, Kathleen, would go on to inherit.

He enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces, following in his older brother Elliot's footsteps. While overseas, he stole cultural artifacts, causing him to be dishonorably discharged. He then began selling wine. (OC: "The Last Supper")

It was revealed that the heroin that Stabler found wrapped in foil belonged to Joey, when he left a family gathering to shoot up heroin in his car. (OC: "Sins Of Our Fathers")

Randall and Stabler then discovered that Joey was shooting up heroin when finding it in his safe. They then held an intervention for Joey who refused to admit that he needed help before Stabler confronted him about shooting up heroin in his house at the dinner. Joey then left and told them all to back off. (OC: "Semper Fi")

After Joey went off the grid, Randall broke into the warehouse where he works as a wine vendor. Randall then ends up getting arrested, but Vargas manages to bail him out. Whilst Bell was questioning Randall about Joey's involvement, Jet reveals that there was blood found inside the warehouse that belonged to Bashir. Joey then became a suspect in Bashir's murder. (OC: "Crossroads")

It was revealed that Joey was associated with Julian Emery, a crime boss that Stabler went undercover to investigate. (OC: "Redcoat")
