Attorney Julia DeBakey is a civil rights counselor, who Paul Robinette described as rivaling in relentlessness with William Kunstler.

History[]

DeBakey was introduced for defending gay man and murderer Jack Curry for mercy killing of men with AIDS. She immediately started with protesting Curry’s placement with drug addicts and insisted his arraignment happen in two days. She brought on many character witnesses to speak in Curry’s defense, from activists to his victims’ families, and turned down pleas that would imply his actions were malicious. She also announced Curry himself was suffering AIDS. In the end, Curry was found guilty on a reckless endangerment misdemeanor, but his sentence was suspended due to his diagnosis.
