Julianna Margulies is an actress who played Lieutenant Ruth Mendoza in the Law & Order Season 3 episode "Conduct Unbecoming".
Margulies is probably best known for playing Nurse Carol Hathaway for six years on the NBC medical drama ER (with Anthony Edwards, Eriq La Salle, Gloria Reuben, and Maura Tierney). She won an Emmy Award for this role, and was nominated several times for a Golden Globe Award. She was originally offered a $27 million contract to remain on the show for an additional three years, stretching into Season 9 of the show. However, Margulies turned it down which led to whirlwind of media speculation and buzz the year she exited the show. She recently played as Alicia Florrick in CBS drama series The Good Wife from 2009 to 2016 (with Christine Baranski, Josh Charles, Zach Grenier, and Chris Noth).
In November 2019, it was announced that Margulies will guest star in Showtime series Billions. Margulies will play Catherine Brant in the Showtime drama, who is described as an Ivy League sociology professor and bestselling author.
In December 2020, it was announced that Margulies will join the second season of The Morning Show as Laura Peterson, an anchor at UBA News. She will join returning series stars Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and Nestor Carbonell.
Margulies had a recurring role as Julianna Skiff on The Sopranos (with Edie Falco, Robert Iler, and Michael Imperioli). She also voiced Neera in the adventure film Dinosaur (2000) and appeared in the miniseries The Mists of Avalon (with Samantha Mathis). Her other films include Evelyn (with Aidan Quinn and Stephen Rea), Ghost Ship (with Ron Eldard, Desmond Harrington, and Isaiah Washington), Snakes on a Plane (with Samuel L. Jackson), City Island (with Ezra Miller), Stand Up Guys (with Fisher Stevens, who directed the film), and The Upside (2017). On November 10, 2007, Margulies married attorney Keith Lieberthal, the son of academic Kenneth Lieberthal, in Lenox, Massachusetts. They have a son, Kieran Lindsay Lieberthal. They reside in Manhattan.
