Katie Conlan is the daughter of electric company CEO John Conlan, who was tampering with New York City’s electricity supply to hike his prices. When his actions caused a blackout, Katie and her mother Alana were kidnapped, their housekeeper Isabel Paez murdered by the burglars.
Katie was rescued, but Alana was murdered as well after one of the kidnappers, Nicky Costas, died in a failed escape with the ransom. Roy Barkin, Costas’ cousin, was arrested, along with the mastermind Marty Dressler. As Conlan wouldn’t testify to his fraud, the kidnappers were released,
Katie found out and was devastated, being the primary encouragement for Conlan to risk his freedom to testify. As a result, the kidnappers were imprisoned. (L&O: “Darkness”)
