Recently getting out of a bad relationship, Kayla went to a bar where she was served by Dustin Tinsley. Dustin clearly had interest in Kayla, and it appeared reciprocated. The two shared a kiss but Kayla rejected him in the end and denied his attempts to hook up. She was disgusted by his insulting remarks and walked off. Shortly after, she was beaten, raped, and left unconscious by Aaron Wesley Parker before being rushed to the hospital. When Dustin was found with Kayla's wallet, he was swiftly arrested.
However, the real rapist called anonymously to take credit, and led the police to another woman he raped, Shay Landry. Parker was arrested after SVU discovered his serial rapes across various states. It was revealed Dustin was framed by his sister Demmy Tinsley, who was raped for years by Dustin and tried to get him imprisoned after fearing Dustin raped Kayla after finding her in the park.
