On August 24, 2022, Giddish confirmed on Instagram that she was departing the main cast in the ninth episode of the twenty-fourth season after 11 years.[1] Days later, it was confirmed that Giddish's departure from the series was not her choice and that she had been fired after being unable to negotiate with salaries with NBC, which sparked outrage from fans of the series. According to reports, Hargitay also tried to convince NBC to keep Giddish on the series but was unsuccessful.[2]
