The twelfth season of the legal drama series Law & Order premiered on NBC between September 26, 2001 and concluded on May 22, 2002. The season consists of 24 episodes.
This season aired alongside with season three of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and season 1 of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Just like the premieres of the spin-offs, the opening dialogue was changed to dedicate the entirety of the season to the victims of 9/11, deceased, alive and unfound. As well as their families and units.

This is the first season to feature Elisabeth Röhm as Serena Southerlyn (replacing Angie Harmon as Abbie Carmichael). Dianne Wiest, who played Nora Lewin, left the series at the end of the 12th season.
