- "In the nation's largest city, the vicious and violent members of the underworld are hunted by the detectives of the Organized Crime Control Bureau. These are their stories."
Law & Order: Organized Crime is an American police procedural television series, created by Dick Wolf, Ilene Chaiken, and Matt Olmstead that premiered on NBC on April 1, 2021.
As of May 16, 2024, the series has aired 65 episodes, recently concluding the fourth season.
On April 25, 2024, the series was renewed for a fifth season.
The first four seasons were broadcast on NBC in the US. From the fifth season onwards, the series will be broadcast on the streaming service Peacock, making this series the first in the franchise to air primarily on a streaming service as well as the second series in the franchise to move networks, the first being Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
This series differs from other shows in the franchise in several notable ways. Unlike the other shows, storyline arcs generally span several episodes each rather than wrap up in one or two episodes. The first story arc spanned the entire eight-episode season and the second season was divided into three arcs across twenty-four episodes. The storylines featured are also not "ripped from the headlines"[1] but instead ones that are similar to those of gangster, mafia, and crime movies of the 1970s and '80s, most notably The Godfather and Taxi Driver. It is also the only series in the franchise to feature criminals as main characters, excluding Law & Order True Crime, which was based on true events. Finally, the show doesn't make use of the scene card transitions used by the other shows.
It is the eighth US series in the Law & Order franchise and is the seventh US series in the franchise to air.
The entire series is available to stream on Peacock in the United States. In Australia, seasons 3-4 can be streamed for free on 9Now while season 1 can be streamed for free on 7plus, with Australia also being the only country to release the first two seasons on DVD.
