Li Mei Wu is the sister of Jiao Wu, who's in debt to smuggling ring led by Ricky Yao along with her daughters, Hannah, Suzie, and Ping. Ping was forced to go into prostitution, while Jiao and her other daughters would labor to pay financial fees to the ring.
History[]
When Jiao couldn't meet the gang's demands any longer, she was killed and her two daughters were left alone in their apartment for days. Li Mei was tracked and she took in her nieces, ready to appeal for their custody in family court. But one of Yao's enforcer's, Tommy, was sent to make Li Mei responsible for the debt, beating her and cutting her forehead behind her workplace as incentive.
When a photo of Ping reveals she's being used as a prostitute, the police set up a sting where Li Mei is arranged to drop the remaining money for Ping's immigration. Tommy and Yao are arrested, but it's not over once Yao posts bail. The location where Ping's being held captive is stormed, and she's rescued just in time to not be killed by a mercenary. Li Mei is in the ambulance where Ping is loaded into, looking back at the squad as she joins her niece at the hospital. (SVU: "Debt")
