Background information and notes[]
- This episode is based on a shooting spree in northern Wisconsin, on November 21, 2004. Chai Vang, a Hmong hunter on a hunting trip, was trespassing on a private land. He was confronted by local hunters, and a dispute escalated into a deadly rampage. Vang shot eight people, six fatally, and is currently serving six life sentences.
- Another aspect of the episode's plot also seems to be based on the death of Carl Robert Brown on August 20, 1982. On that day, Brown committed a mass shooting at a Miami, Florida, welding shop, killing eight and wounding three before bicycling away from the scene. Two bystanders pursued him in a car, shot him with a legally-owned gun, and ran him over, killing him.
