Quotes
[Fontana & Green at Davey Buckley's apt.]
Fontana: [to Davey] Your wrist is bleeding.
Buckley: Yeah, I don't know why it keeps doing that.
Fontana: That happen at the wreck? [Davey agrees] Well, they should've taken you to the hospital and had it sewn up.
Buckley: Yeah, well, it wasn't too bad...
Fontana: But what? You refused medical aid?
Buckley: I don't have insurance. [Fontana grabs a chair to sit by Davey and unwraps the gauze bandage and sees a fresh cut...]
Fontana: Oh yeah. Yeah, that's gonna need a fresh bandage... This is not right. This is not right at all... Well, this wasn't caused by flying glass. [Davey disagrees] No. No, it's too clean. This was caused by a blade. You cut yourself. You slashed your wrist... Nick?
Falco: It's a blade cut. No question.
Fontana: Why would you do that... Well, you're gonna need a doctor... Why would you do such a thing, David? David!?
Buckley: I didn't mean to hurt anybody. Uh, I didn't mean to kill anybody.
Fontana: You killed twelve people! [Davey starts crying and shaking his head]
Buckley: I'm sorry. I just meant to kill myself.
Falco: You wanna give us a statement now?
Buckley: Sure. Why not? [Still crying]
Background information and notes
- Remade in 2013 as Law & Order: UK episode "Tracks".
- Andrea Yates, who drowned all five of her children and not four as stated in the episode, was at first found guilty of murder. Her conviction of murder was later overturned due to perjury of a psychiatrist on the prosecution's side. She was found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2006.
- Another episode that deals with a train colliding with an automobile to try to commit suicide is the Law & Order: Criminal Intent episode "No Exit", which aired seventeen days before.
