Lorraine Maxwell is a trial division chief who has crossed paths with the Manhattan Special Victims Unit.

History[]

Maxwell and Phillip Baptiste are seen speaking with reporters about the case and Dominick Carisi, Jr. approaches them and Maxwell gives him a compliment about the arrest. However, Carisi argues with them against charging Tori Warshofsky with three counts of murder, due to her cooperating with the police, which makes Carisi's relationship with Maxwell and Baptiste complicated. Maxwell continues to push Carisi to charge Tori, despite Benson and Carisi's disapproval. However, in the end, Carisi stands up to Maxwell and Baptiste and encourages them to drop the murder charges against Tori and another abuse victim of David Graham's, Jasmine Cruz. Maxwell and Baptiste drop the murder charges against Tori and Jasmine and claims that Tori and Jasmine are on probation on the burglary charges. (SVU: "Nightmares In Drill City")

While investigating a woman's rape, Maxwell shares her story to Carisi and Benson about how she was sexually assaulted in a shed at a party by a young man, who was a member of the Porcellian Club, during her freshman year at Radcliffe. Maxwell claims that she never told anybody the story except for Benson and Carisi. Maxwell then signs the warrant to arrest a suspect named Cole Eaton. (SVU: "If I Knew Then What I Know Now")

Maxwell and Carisi took a woman named Delia Hackman to trial for murdering her husband after enduring several years of abuse from him. After Delia had a nervous breakdown on the stand, both Maxwell and Carisi made a deal with her and her attorney Rafael Barba to plead to misdemeanor assault, which would spare her from going to prison, which Delia agreed to, finally relieved she was free and could live her life without fear. (SVU: "A Final Call at Forlini's Bar")

Maxwell's life is torn apart when her husband Roger Briggs is arrested and arraigned for charges of sex trafficking. When he offers for her to share dinner with him, she refuses over the betrayal. When Roger stands and threatens Maxwell, ready to accost or attack her, he keels over and dies after choking on his dinner. (SVU: "Bend the Law")
