Mahershalalhashbaz "Mahershala" Ali (born Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore) is an actor who guest-starred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in the episode "Unstable" as Mark Foster.
Ali is best known for his roles on the films The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2, and Moonlight (a role that he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for) and The 4400 (with Joel Gretsch, Patrick Flueger, Peter Coyote, Megalyn Echikunwoke, Laura Allen, and Billy Campbell) and House of Cards and Luke Cage (with Mike Colter, Theo Rossi, Ron Cephas Jones, Erik LaRay Harvey, and Mustafa Shakir). In 2019, Ali starred as Arkansas State Police detective Wayne Hays in the third season of the HBO series True Detective (with Carmen Ejogo, Josh Hopkins, and Michael Rooker).
In 2021, he voiced vampire hunter Blade in the feature film Eternals, ahead of his own Marvel Cinematic Universe standalone film.
