Mark's DNA was a familial match at the scene of the rape of Jessica Walcott, so he was questioned.
Lying that his family member was "in an accident", Mark gave Nick's name despite the false pretenses. Nick was arrested, and he confessed to the rape of Jessica, later being imprisoned on a lesser sentence after giving up serial rapist Sam Dalton. (SVU: "Genes")
