Marlon Cooper is a civil rights attorney who was strongly opposed to the adoption of Mamuno-born infant Christopher Mogae by soap star Sofia Archer. He smuggled his father Ephraim Mogae into the U.S from Toronto, Canada, so Ephraim could get his son back. Cooper gave Ephraim his phone to call Sofia's doorman, Dwayne McCready, to know when the family was out of the house. Ephraim also snatched Cooper's gun, which had a faulty firing pin.
Only wanting to scare Sofia's husband Sean, Ephraim accidentally shot him and killed him. Copper protected Ephraim and his motives by revealing nothing about what Cooper did to bring him into the United States. When Ephraim was arrested while hospitalized for a broken ankle from a fall, he wanted to see Christopher for his confession, but Sofia killed his son from neglect and/or abuse and carried around her former assistant Lashonda Harris' baby as an imposter.
