Marvin Posey (alias Marty Potter) was a serial killer and serial rapist who assisted fellow rapist and murderer Darryl Kern in a series of rapes and murders.
History[]
Posey's mother was killed by his father while he was only a child, leaving him to be raised by his aunt Mary. Working as a deliveryman, he befriended Darryl Kern, a psychopathic military veteran, over their shared hunting enthusiasm and assisted him with his serial killings. They would kidnap, rape, and torture young women inside a warehouse in Alphabet City that they employed as a holding cell and storage location for the bodies. At first, the authorities thought they were investigating a lone serial killer, who was dubbed "The Bowery Stalker". A would-be victim, Sarah Kimmel, eventually managed to escape from the storehouse due to a mistake on Posey's part, leading the police to find the holding location. As a result, they fled and maintained a low profile for a while.
Subsequently, Kern killed a friend of Posey's, a plumber named Ernest Dillman, in order to acquire his cabin in Walden Falls, near Watertown. They began killing again, also robbing their victims of their personal effects in order to use their credit cards and bank accounts, with which they built a survivalist bunker in order to have a secure place for holding their prisoners.
Manhunt[]
They eventually returned in New York City and abducted another girl named Annie Tassler. During her abduction, Posey pretended to be a concerned civilian helping a man save his friend from Kern but failed as Kern got away. Continuing his charade, Posey gave the cops a fake name Marty Potter and a false story of how he was trying to help in stopping an abduction. In truth, he was misleading the detectives to steer them away from Kern.
However, SVU Detectives Munch and Tutuola discovered his true identity from his aunt only to discover that Posey and Kern had already fled. Eventually, the New York State Police, the ATF, and Munch and Tutuola engaged a massive nationwide manhunt in order to track down Kern and Posey, who was later mutilated to death by his dominant partner for his previous failure. His bloodied corpse was left swinging from a rope with phones taped to him. Kern was later captured and charged for Posey's murder, along with his other victims from his spree and was executed.
