Mary Colton is a Hampstead resident and rape victim who was sexually assaulted by Thomas Zimmerman.

History[]

Mary hails from Hempstead and was raped not far from a homeless shelter there. Her rapist wore a mask and told her "Do what I say and you won't get hurt" Her case was investigated but never solved, due to the offender wearing a condom and no other cases appearing.

The rapist responsible relocated to New York City, raping Sofie Nomaks before he raped and murdering shelter counselor Robin Daughtry.

Mary was called to Manhattan Special Victims Unit precinct identify an arrested suspect, Richie Caskey guilty of another series of rapes in the same locations. Mary heard the tapes but was unable to recognize the voice. Mary was told by Lieutenant Olivia Benson that her rapist had gone on a rape spree, and they need her to be sure. Mary listened to the tape once more but could not identify it as her rapist. As she was led out, she apologized for not being sure as Detective Dominick Carisi, Jr. brought in Caskey. When the sheltered ex-cons' lawyer Thomas Zimmerman arrived, Mary reacted to hearing them talk. Once Benson had Carisi take Caskey and Zimmerman to the interrogation room, Mary told Benson she heard the voice of her rapist. She also confirmed to Benson that it was not Caskey but Zimmerman.

This led to a successful sting of catching Zimmerman in the act of trying to frame convicted Richie Caskey. Mary watched in court as Zimmerman and Gerald Loomis (another serial rapist) were convicted and imprisoned. Mary was consoled by Benson's grip through the whole trial and was pleased to see that she got justice in the end. (SVU: "Sheltered Outcasts")
