Masud Faraj is a man who raped his ex-wife in revenge for leaving him.
History[]
He met Nahla in high school, and they married years later. He converted to her religion for her, being devoted to supporting her and they were happy for a while. However, they drifted apart after she realized she was a lesbian. Masud was outraged at putting his life in the marriage and began stalking her. He would often appear at her job office and demanded to speak with her, but he'd always be told to leave by her assistant Aida and was forced to leave after she threatened to call the cops. Not wanting her to be distracted, Aida withheld his knowledge from Nahla, but this added more fuel to Masud's rage at supposedly being ignored.
In 2019, Masud attended Nahla's ceremony but stayed out of sight, as Nahla gave her speech. He was present during her confrontation with two delinquents on the street and put a plan in action to get back at Nahla and avoid detection. That night, he blitzed her and raped her in revenge for leaving him. Suspicion initially fell on Nahla's two hecklers, though they were cleared of any wrongdoing
When questioned at his flower shop by SVU over the attack, Masud feigned compassion about his ex-wife being raped but does give insight as to why they divorced. He gives an alibi for his time during the attack, but he is unaware that Det. Carisi previously saw him on video of the day of Nahla's attack. He was later suspected after his ex-wife recalled that he used to grab her in sex and how it was similar to the assault, as well as Aida revealing his threats. He was confronted by SVU and almost refused to give in, as he threatened Carisi and Rollins with garden shears but surrendered nonetheless.
In court, he tries to maintain his innocence but after Nahla goes on the stand, he loses his composure after ADA Peter Stone needles him into admitting his jealousy is stemming from resentment of her for leaving him. After Stone quotes the Muslim traditions, Masud is driven over the edge and implicates himself by admitting to the rape and voices his regret on not killing her per tradition. His incriminating statement gives the jury insight into his personality.
He was found guilty on the charges of second-degree rape and hate crimes, being subsequently imprisoned.
