Law and Order

Maya Sills is the accomplice of rapist and murderer Damon Kerrigan, hoping to use their shared crimes to keep them together.

Background[]

Sills lived with undiagnosed borderline personality disorder, with an obsession of never being abandoned. Her father, previously arrested for soliciting a prostitute, taught her how to hunt through archery and got her a license, mostly assigning her to clean wildlife he killed. He taught Sills to whisper to dead animals "now you know who killed you". Her mother left the family because of her father's activity with sex workers. Her father died when she was 13 from a heart attack, which Sills blamed on prostitutes. She was forced out of their home in Queens and through the revolving door of foster care. Sills group up to be an emergency room nurse, eventually meeting Kerrigan through his work as a fireman. Sills was instantly attracted when finding out Kerrigan had a prior rape charge that was dropped, seeing Kerrigan as a working-class, sexually problematic surrogate for her father.

Hoping to keep him around by fueling his sexual sadism, Sills manipulated another nurse's aide, Janine Lutz, into a friendship. Sills would steal hospital drugs for Janine, and eventually, Sills got Janine to partake in three-way sex with the couple. One night, conspiring to "hunt" Janine like the "junkie whore" Kerrigan wanted and Sills wanted to offer, the couple lured Janine over to the house and spiked her drink. Kerrigan raped her violently while she was dosed, with Sills watching and eventually whispering "now you know who killed you" at Janine. Kerrigan also referred to Sills as "Diana", the name of the Roman goddess of the hunt, which would continue to be her pet name. Despite the couple intending to kill her, Janine escaped. After trying twice and failing each time to get restraining orders on the two, she changed her address and hid, with Sills obsessively continuing to stalk Janine since she feared Kerrigan would leave Sills if he didn't kill Janine. In the meantime, Sills still found women fitting Kerrigan's wants when she crossed them in the emergency room.

Love Sick[]

Rachel Melham goes to the hospital when bar fight she wasn't a part of leaves her with a cut on her face. Sills takes her away from a nurse, Randall Ames, with a penchant for sexually harassing women and girls, after Ames had harassed sills earlier. She later kidnaps her and brings Kerrigan to their house for him to rape and strangle her while dosed with alcohol and valium. Sills then cleans her corpse with hospital solutions and dresses and applies makeup on her to make her look promiscuous or like a prostitute. After that, another woman, Isabel Felix, arrives at the hospital with a cut on her hand she got from a drawer, and Sills repeats the same lure when Ames is off to patch her up. Kerrigan rapes and kills her too, and Sills is only seen through her gloved hands dressing up a dead Isabel, specifically painting her toenails. She's left in the same area where Rachel was found, in another alley.

Sills tries to deflect and pin the blame on Ames when she's tracked. While the detectives check her and Kerrigan's records to prove she's lying, she and Kerrigan meet back up at their place for sex, Sills being restrained when she wants to be treated like the women they killed. Sills later aggressively scrubs the bathroom, her thoughts going back to Janine. She knew Kerrigan was out again, but he reassures her they're still together. Sills doesn't accept this and demands they find Janine again to kill her. When they come up with her new address, Kerrigan is hesitant, but Sills insists because their crimes are how they kept together. When Sills finds Janine at a market and lets Kerrigan know, she waits outside in a car while Kerrigan gets into Janine's apartment building. He pushes in when Janine opens the door, but is swiftly arrested by police inside, while they make Sills outside get out of the car before she's arrested.

Sills pretends to be the victim herself, showing her restraint marks and alleging Kerrigan beat her and was behind luring the women to their place, Sills only cleaning and dressing them later they were dead. Noticing how little she flinches, the detectives don't buy it. When Janine gives her statement of what she remembers and insists the detectives punish Sills with Kerrigan, the detectives try to illicit a confession from Sills. Bringing up her father and likening him to Kerrigan, Sills turns to being apathetic and unhinged, saying "diseases and disgusting whores" killed her father, which is why she'll get off easy and not even Janine can testify. When mentioning Janine got away, Sills finally says the reason the women knew who were attacking them was because they trusted Sills up until they were murdered. Sills shows an eerie grin and asks if the police are finished, getting a response that the interrogation is over.

Sills is found guilty of murder and rape facilitation and is imprisoned for life.
