Law and Order

Detective Mia Ruz is a detective with the Hate Crimes Task Force, reporting to Captain Declan Murphy. She was formerly an officer with the Bronx Special Victims Unit, which was under the command of Lieutenant Carolyn Barek.

History[]

Ruz, Barek, and Sergeant Ari Moldovan teamed up with the Manhattan Special Victims Unit to investigate a series of rapes which had been occurring in Manhattan and the Bronx. During the case, Ruz developed a friendship with Officer Katriona Tamin. However, after Moldovan shot a suspect in cold blood, they started looking into Moldovan's background. After discovering that Moldovan was a serial rapist, Tamin questioned Ruz about Moldovan's loyalty to the department where Ruz told her that Moldovan respected her, unlike other men. After Moldovan confessed to the rapes and was arrested, Ruz approached Tamin angrily, accusing her of ruining her chances of being moved up the ranks. (SVU: "Hunt, Trap, Rape, and Release")

By Christmas of 2021, Ruz was promoted to Detective and transferred to the Hate Crimes Unit under Captain Declan Murphy. She reunited with SVU and helped in the investigation of an ongoing spree of hate crimes. (SVU: "Silent Night, Hateful Night")

Ruz assisted the SVU in catching the rapist of a young woman named Audrey O'Neill. She went undercover as a person committing adultery to trap Fathers Ryan Duffy and John Regis. After going undercover, Ruz waited at the art gallery and arrested Duffy after he was caught trying to break in and rape Ruz. However, it is revealed that Regis is the real rapist, and Duffy was only trying to stop him. (SVU: "Confess Your Sins to Be Free")
