Quotes[]

Greg Yates: Sorry you wasted your trip. I'm sure. Tell the warden I'd be much more comfortable talking with Detective Rollins.
Antonio Dawson: She's not coming up here.
Greg Yates: Why not? Ohh, she must have had her baby by now. Is it a boy or a girl?
Erin Lindsay: That is none of your business.
Greg Yates: You want closure for those families? Get her here by tomorrow.

Carisi: You see that? Yates charmed the warden. It's classic sociopath. It's classic.

Greg Yates: [to Rollins] Detective. Motherhood becomes you.
Rollins: Thank you.
Greg Yates: How'd you lose the baby weight so fast? You are glowing. Are you breastfeeding? You know the hormones can do wonders...
Carisi: Okay, that's enough.
Rollins: That's okay, Carisi.

Rollins: I hate being coddled. You know, what I have a baby and all of a sudden, I can't talk to serial killers anymore.

[while they are locked down in prison]
Barba: What the hell is taking so long?
Dodds: CERT's on their way. They'll get this under control.
Barba: Thank you, Sergeant. That's very comforting.
Dodds: Counselor, we're in here, they're out there. Relax.
Barba: I'm perfectly relaxed.

Warden Lucille Fenton: [to Olivia] Detective Rollins comes to visit Yates and he escapes. Any particular reason why you've come up here instead of her?
Benson: My detective did not help Yates break out of prison.
Warden Fenton: She fought to get him transferred to the Honor Block.
Benson: Because she knows him better than anyone else. It was the only way we could get him to cooperate.
Barba: Rollins didn't order those drones and she didn't cut a hole in Rudnick's cell wall. This has been planned for months.

Benson: We think they might have made a break after head count this morning.
Voight: And nobody noticed for eight hours?

Rollins: Lieutenant, I did not see this coming.

Major Bowman: [about Yates and Rudnick] Hey, how bad are these guys?

Antonio Dawson: [about Bronwyn] What's the deal with this girl? She got a thing for serial killers?
Rollins: More or less.
Erin Lindsay: This her car?
Benson: Well, its the same make and model as her husbands, but different plates.
Erin Lindsay: Yates would switch them.
Dawson: No sign of him or Rudnick?
Rollins: There was nothing in the car but they were here. The dogs picked up their scent.
Carisi: Hey, Lieutenant! I've got something over here! [Benson and the others join Carisi] Come here. I got a jump suit, a dress and a wig.
Benson: Okay. So, the question is now where's Rudnick's body?
Dodds: Hey! Dogs are on to something. [as they discover another car] Car's locked, Lieutenant
Benson: What? Open it. [Dodds smashes the window and pops the trunk. They find Bronwyn bound and gagged]
Lindsay: [removing the tape from Bronwyn's mouth] Where are they? Where's Yates?
Bronwyn Wilkins: I don't know. Help me, please.
Rollins: All right. Well, you were with them. How long ago?
Bronwyn Wilkins: Before noon. He, Yates... He made me...
Benson: Get her out of here.

Barba: [to Bronwyn about Dr. Rudnick] Did he ask you for favors?
Bronwyn Wilkins: He'd talk about a a book he missed, a piece of art or music. He loves Albinoni, the "Adagio in"...
Rollins: So you brought him gifts.
Bronwyn Wilkins: Little things. Salt to cook with, spices, organic soaps...
Benson: How about hacksaws?
Bronwyn Wilkins: Maybe it's not good for her to be here. She has a lot of anger toward me.
Benson: Yeah, why do you think that is, Bronwyn?
Barba: Liv, we got this.
Benson: No, I'm not gonna coddle her. [to Bronwyn] You helped two serial killers escape from prison. Whatever they do to anyone while they're out is on you.

Dodds: Benson says Bronwyn gave Rudnick a gun and a map of the Adirondack State Park.
Major Bowman: Adirondack park? That's six million acres.
Carisi: Yeah. It's why we need to look on the north end. When Rollins and I apprehended Rudnick, he was in Buffalo. Just shy of the Canadian border.
Dawson: What was his escape plan?
Carisi: He had passports and cash. But beyond that, we never found out.
Lindsay: That's Rudnick, but Yates? The last time he was on the run, he killed Nadia and he went on a spree.
Carisi: Yeah, we're not even sure if these two are still together. There's bad blood between the two of them.
Dodds: Yeah. Well. Anything is possible. They could have split up. One could have killed the other.

Carl Rudnick: People say life is short, but life is of course very long. You want to stay in your best shape.

Dodds: Detective. I know he killed someone close to you, but this isn't us anymore.

Background information and notes[]

  • Clearly inspired, at least in part, by the real life prison break of Richard Matt and David Sweat. The two men escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York in June, 2015 with the help of a female prison employee who was allegedly involved sexually with one or both of them. After 3 weeks on the run, Matt was shot and killed by law enforcement officers; Sweat was wounded and apprehended 2 days later only a mile and a half from the Canadian border.
  • This episode is part of a crossover event that concludes with the Chicago P.D. episode "The Song of Gregory Williams Yates".
    • Originally, this two-show crossover could have been part of a four-show crossover with not only SVU and Chicago P.D., but also Chicago Med and Chicago Fire.[1]
    • A special opening narration was used for this episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Chicago P.D.:
"In the criminal justice system some killers are so depraved that it takes multiple police agencies to bring them to justice. This is one of those investigations."
