Ned Bogden (alias The Bedtime Butcher) was a serial killer active in the 1970s. He was later a suspect in the murder of Jane Whitmore in 2010.
History[]
Bogden raped and slashed five women to death in their beds, hence his nickname, all out of jealousy or personal provocation after they crossed paths with Bogden in his professional life. His calling card was cutting a large "X" into their heads, and his M.O. was posing them restrained under their sheets for shock value. He stopped killing for decades after starting to work in the city benefits department, where he'd grope and sexually abuse women and girls in exchange for their basic needs. Jane started investigating sexual assault allegations related to Bodgen by going undercover, resulting in him killing her once he found out.
Bogden was apprehended through an undercover sting where he grabbed Benson's breast during an introduction. He denied killing Jane but was then confronted when his other murders came back on the radar. He was matched through dandruff he left at all of the crime scenes, which was also taken from his coat during interrogation. As a result, he confessed to all of the murders except that of Emily Cutler, who was killed by veteran cop Susan Delzio and the scene staged to emulate Bodgen's M.O. in an effort to cover her tracks.
