Mrs. Newlands was a dermatologist who had a practice in New York City called Newlands Skin Care. Her husband Archibald Newlands was also a dermatologist at the same practice.

Background[]

She was married to Archibald Newlands and they had two daughters, while working at a medical practice in New York. Unknown to her, her husband was having an affair with Brianna Morris who he impregnated and murdered along with the baby after she threatened to file a paternity suit against him.

Following their daughter's birthday, she saw her husband had a scar and took his word for it that he accidentally cut himself. Soon after Peter Nestler, one of her patients came to her when a melanomas was found on his back, causing her to draw blood out of it to ensure it did not spread.

Serendipity[]

Manhattan Special Victims Unit detectives suspected Newlands in the death of Brianna Morris and her newborn daughter, as well as a series of child rapes. Mrs. Newlands stood by her husband and defended him after he made bail. However, she was shaken when A.D.A. Casey Novak visited her home to confirm her husband's guilt by stating his DNA was matched before Archibald cut the visit short and had Novak leave. Mrs. Newlands subsequently took her children away from the house.

Her husband was later found dead and SVU discovered that Newlands indeed killed Brianna and was the father of her child, though accidentally implicated himself by using the blood that belonged to a pedophile, who was also the one that killed Newlands to close the investigation on his case. The detectives deduced it was one of his patients, since he had access to the blood and decided to get a list from the widow.

They informed Mrs. Newlands of the investigation while she was distraught at the truth of her husband's actions, while noting she lied for him as he was already gone when she woke up the day he killed Morris. She helped the detectives by recalling the day her husband cut himself and after condemning him, she recalled the only patient she drew blood from Peter Nestler. Due to her, Nestler was tracked, arrested, and later executed.
