Nicholas Baxter is the District Attorney for the borough of Manhattan, replacing Jack McCoy.
History[]
Baxter approached Riley and Shaw at a crime scene, where he introduced himself as McCoy's replacement and insisted that he wanted to have a good relationship with the police. When Baxter joined the office, EADA Price became suspicious of his motives throughout the duration of the case against Jessica Reese. (L&O: "Balance Of Power")
During an investigation into the death of a man exonerated for rape and murder, Baxter mentioned that he tried two cases on behalf of the Innocence Project while in private practice and lost them both. (L&O: "Inconvenient Truth")
Price finally confronted Baxter about using the case against Shawn Payne as a boost for his political campaign. Baxter told him that his perception of him was starting to impact their relationship and that he wanted to win the campaign because he loved his job. Baxter then took over as first chair to prosecute Payne. (L&O: "No Good Deed")
At Mayor Robert Payne's annual charity dinner, Baxter was the target of an assassination attempt by Hector Canseco, who ended up killing sports star Matt Bennett instead. When his daughter Carrie came to Baxter claiming that she saw Hector outside their house, Baxter asked Carrie to testify, which upset Julia, who accused him of not caring enough about their family. After Carrie's successful testimony, Canseco was convicted of murder and the attempted murder of Baxter. When Baxter held another campaign event, Carrie approached Baxter and told him that Julia was not coming, which upset him. (L&O: "In Harm's Way")
