Nina Cassady was a detective on Law & Order, the first and only female detective in the original Law & Order series, appeared in the seventeenth season. Cassady was partnered with Detective Ed Green.

Her arrival at the 27th Precinct was controversial, as Lieutenant Anita Van Buren, the precinct commander, had someone lined up to be Detective Fontana's replacement and Green's partner. Van Buren was overruled, however, after Cassady's involvement in a well-publicized arrest led to her being promoted.
