Nina Green is the sister of missing murder victim Aretha Green and the other daughter of Cora Green. She descended into drug use from knowing Coleman Green, her adoptive grandfather, raped and murdered her sister.
History[]
Aretha and Nina were Cora's daughters and the adopted granddaughters of Coleman, as he married Cora's mother when she insisted Cora needed a father and falsely told Coleman that Cora was his daughter too. After Aretha was born, Coleman started raping her repeatedly, Nina witnessing the rapes herself. When Aretha got pregnant, Coleman killed her in an altercation and sunk her remains in the Harlem Meer. Christian Garland was with the other officers in the search and rescue team, but 9/11 sidetracked their efforts, and Aretha sat at the bottom of the water for over twenty years.
A boy and police divers found her skeleton in a plastic bag when the boy was fishing in the water. Cora was heartbroken and Coleman pretended to be sympathetic. Diverting suspicion from himself, Coleman originally blamed Aretha's boyfriend, but that was a swiftly discounted direction. When asked by detectives about Nina, Cora and Coleman stated she was estranged due to her drug problems, the two fearing she'd turn up dead sooner than Aretha. She was tracked to the halfway house she lodged at, but she fled without warning despite never cause disturbances before. Nina revealed the rapes she witnessed and Coleman arrived to rattle her from revealing Aretha was found.
When she revealed Coleman knew of Aretha's pregnancy, his lies unraveled. His DNA was a match, and he gave up and confessed in interrogation, saying he "loved" Aretha because they weren't inherent family. Nina and Cora reunited, with Cora swearing it was just the two of them and promising to keep with her for the rest of their shared lives. (SVU: "Tangled Strands of Justice")
