Patrick Johnson is a Haitian boy who was held captive by his adoptive parents, Eric and Miriam Johnson, who are two traffickers of Haitian children who were turned into child slaves by paying households. The couple’s daughter Karen threatened Patrick would become homeless and never return to Haiti if the Johnsons were thrown in jail.
To that end, Karen made Patrick take the family’s gun and shoot Fred and Lizzy Bellamy, a married couple running a divorce law firm, while they slept, as they found some of the Johnsons’ clients, Ann and Bill Carter and we’re starting an investigation. Patrick as rescued when he was burying the gun in a park, which was later retrieved.
The Johnsons were suspected of the murders by the time all the children were rescued, and the players and clients of the ring were arrested. But the law and justice teams knew the truth, realizing Karen knew intimate details about the killings, and Patrick had dirt under his fingernails when he was put in protective custody.
Patrick pleaded to be deported, but he was arrested instead, regretting the loss of his freedom with the sympathy of the detectives and prosecutors themselves. Patrick was found guilty on reduced degrees of two murder charges and imprisoned. (L&O: "Chattel")
