Chief Paul Greco was a lifeguard who was secretly moonlighting as a serial rapist and killer.
Background[]
Greco worked as a lifeguard chief seemingly with an impeccable record and esteem in the community. Privately, he falsified the scores of lifeguard candidates regardless of whether they were capable of swimming or not. In return, Greco made the lifeguards partake in a "pay or lay" ultimatum, where he would rape them as he wanted or dock their pay by ten percent and keep the remainder for himself. As a result of his sabotage while hiring lifeguards, a majority of these lifeguards would negligently let several civilians drown while on the job.
Breakwater[]
In 2022, one of Greco's victims, Diego Rodriguez, had an outburst after seeing Greco near his sister and responded by attacking him only to be pulled off him. Diego later got drunk and was arrested, soon reporting his rape and Special Victims Unit was called in. The detectives questioned Greco for his version, and he replies that he did not do anything to Diego or his sister, only calling Diego a troubled kid. Much later, he decided to silence Diego by having him in his hungover state swim deep into the water and told the other lifeguards not to save him no matter what. Despite Detective Velasco's best efforts to save Diego, the latter drowned to death. The detectives later discovered Greco raped Diego's ex-girlfriend Daniela Cruz, who reported her assault, and her rape kit showed the DNA was a match to Greco, who was arrested for sexually assaulting her as well as several other students, including Diego Rodriguez.
In court, he defended his actions by clarifying that he had consensual sex with the candidates and while he ordered Diego to swim out in the water that he had no idea of the strong current. However, his defense fell apart after many of his fellow lifeguards came forward and revealed that he intimidated them to keep quiet of falsifying the scores of other candidates, despite some not being capable of swimming and how many civilians died because of his actions. Afterwards, Greco decided to avoid a life sentence and begrudgingly pleaded guilty to ten counts of manslaughter to a sentence of thirty years, and he was imprisoned. (SVU: "Breakwater")
