Paula Grace is a technician for pharmaceutical conglomerate Quantum, under the employment of Kevin Ragolia to handle the development of the cancer drug Rytex. She found out Quantum was selling sugar capsules resembling Rytex to rival companies to discredit them and make more money from the real deal, so Paula turned informant for the FBI to stop the conspiracy. She also needed payment for her information after she burned through most of her inheritance from her dead parents.
She was found raped and bludgeoned to death beneath an overpass with a bad batch of the drugs in her trunk. Ragolia was the prime suspect once the conspiracy was revealed. It was revealed she was instead raped and killed by Jeffrey Trapani, a cop poser having pulled her over just to rape her, beating her with a rock when she fought back. (SVU: "Counterfeit")
