Paulette Bartol is a woman who became fixated on her roommate Jessalyn Kerr and killed Kerr's rival, Alona Landau, in her name.

Bartol's mother, Frances Bartol, was a dancer. Because her mother couldn't afford a babysitter, Paulette had to accompany her mother to dance practices and auditions. She was kicked out of high school for stalking another student. In spite of this, she was still accepted into the Shuman, a competitive performing arts school, where she meets Kerr and Landau in the ballet program.
She first attempts to connect with Landau and puts a shard of glass in Kerr's shoe, causing a foot injury and giving Landau the leads in the performances. However, Landau found out about the glass shard and calls Bartol crazy. Paulette then falls in love with Kerr and decides to help Kerr sabotage Landau and the other dancers, first by feeding all of them anti-freeze hidden in sports drinks.

Bartol eventually decides to kill Landau, hitting her in the head with a metal piano and pushing off a set of stairs.
