Officer Peter Bennett is a prison guard who arranged the murder of gangster and inmate Rafael Alejo, as revenge for raping Bennett’s fiancé, Officer Angela Donahue. The hit was carried out by serial killer Judd Larson, in exchange for Nelson’s son in a juvie penitentiary being protected. Bennett instigated a prison fight to cover up the true nature of the crime.
As Bennett had a history of fighting off other inmates and even other guards when they harassed Angela, this was used to show he was competent, with additional being the rape trauma resulted in Angela wanting their marriage delayed. The jury acquitted Bennett, and the prosecution feared prison crime would only be more encouraged by such a verdict. (L&O: “Standoff”)
