Pete Rennick is a murderer and a dirty cop targeting drug dealers, who's later killed when he tries to cover up his crimes.
History[]
Rennick had a wife named Doris and a son, as well as reportedly hated the low pay of his job. He'd steal drugs and money from the heists of his sector, resell the drugs, and spend the cash on himself, his family, and a model named Louise Birken he'd have an affair with. He'd have enough for cars, TVs, and his son's college tuition, always lying he'd work overtime, really just to cover his crimes and infidelity. He also stole an unregistered .32 handgun from a gun shop thief, Harding Cistal, and gave it to his partner, Officer Nicki Sandoval, in the event he'd likely want her to plant it on a dead suspect. he told her about his crimes, but she refused his offer to join him, without turning him in.
He fought with a young dealer named Ricky Powers, whose mother heard the whole fight just before Ricky was shot by Rennick. Brutus Walker, a dealer Rennick hassled earlier, was there to call the cops and then run, so Rennick and Sandoval were first on seen. Ricky's mother knew Rennick shot her son dead, but she kept quiet likely out of fear. Sandoval was fed up and started taping their conversations on a microcassette recorder, which Rennick miraculously never noticed. Rennick was planning to kill her at the first chance since he knew she'd sell him out to the justice system.
When Brutus escaped and they were called as backup to arrest, Rennick stole Sandoval's service weapon, chasing and shooting at her. Sandoval used the very unregistered gun Rennick gave her to shoot him in his neck and kill him. She wiped her prints and threw the gun off the building, which was taken by Revina Price since men kept abusing her and she wanted to protect herself. Rennick died at the scene, and Brutus was the prime suspect. Following the trail, detectives found the gun, then Rennick's criminal activity. Not offering deals to their suspects, they got Sandoval to confess, and she offered it in full, along with the tape of Rennick shooting at her and Sandoval firing back. The prosecution defended her, arguing justifiable homicide to a grand jury, and she was likely acquitted. (L&O: "A Death in the Family")
