Officer Peter Francis Ridley is a serial killer who worked as a police officer for 30 years.
Background[]
Ridley was a low-level Vice Officer and a serial killer who raped and murdered dozens of prostitutes over his 31-year career. As a child, he was raised by his mother, a prostitute who would lock him out of the house while she was servicing her customers, leaving him only saltines for dinner. As an adult, he started assaulting women, including two prostitutes and his ex-wife.
Hysteria[]
The Special Victims Unit detectives run across him while investigating the rape and murder of a college student in an area known for prostitution. Detectives Benson and Stabler begin looking into Ridley's background when they discover that he had investigated several crime scenes where the victim was found. Benson and Stabler find that he has multiple complaints on his record for domestic violence and assault and that his psychiatric evaluation lists several psychological problems, while Cragen learns from Briscoe that Ridley has a history of violent mood swings and is being forced into early retirement. Benson then finds evidence linking Ridey to several unsolved murders.
When the detectives bring Ridley in for questioning, he calmly confesses to the murders that Benson discovered, claiming that he wants his murders recorded "for posterity". He denies killing the college student, however. It later turns out that she was murdered by her boyfriend. Ridley is then sentenced to death. (SVU: "Hysteria")
