Preston Bennett is the grieving widower of Tibetan refugee Kunsong Bennett. He was an international trader who supported her cause and told everyone he fell in love with her when she interpreted for him, marrying her to extend American citizenship to her. In reality, while he did care for her and married her to get her out of Tibet, he was in a romantic relationship with his business partner Ryan Chambers. When she was strangled and mutilated, Preston feared she was killed by hateful harassers against the cause of fighting the oppressive Chinese regime ruling over Tibet and torturing the people there.

Preston was briefly suspected due to arguments about Kunsong's safety so she wouldn't be deported, her PTSD, and business partnerships. Kunsong's real killer was found, Jerry Dupree, a shoe fetishist with frontal lobe damage and reduced inhibition, who was at the bakery the Bennetts frequented. Preston was thus acquitted and testified at Dupree's trial. (SVU: "Tortured")
