Quinn Berris is a stalking victim of ex-colleague Ray Wilson, who served time and was dealt a restraining order because of his actions, especially a burglary and assault in Berris' home, only to be released years later. Berris was regaining her life and even started dating again.

One night, a masked assailant raped her at knifepoint while wearing a condom, and Berris feared Wilson was after her again. It was revealed, however, Tom Cole, the sergeant whom she befriended for helping her convict Wilson, is the rapist and stalker, having hated his marriage and job and turned his sights onto Berris out of loneliness.

When Cole was closer to being arrested, he kidnapped Berris and drove her to his family farmhouse in an attempt to plead his case. When a standoff initiated and Berris rejected his advances, Cole was close to shooting everyone present, only for Benson to shoot him dead. Berris was confused as to why Cole targeted her after how she genuinely, healthily cared about him, so Benson made her promise to never blame herself as she was being gurneyed away, and she agreed.
