Richard Lawrence Kincaid is a serial killer who was the kidnapper and murderer of Shannah Sykes' younger sister Crystal.
Background[]
Kincaid worked as a traveling insurance salesman, with his job requiring him to travel around constantly. Eventually, he would abduct several young girls from his travels after earning their trust and taking them to secluded places before raping them and killing them, taking polaroids of them to relive the memory before burying their bodies in spots that he enjoyed. He carried this on for thirteen years and always hid this side from others. Among his victims was Crystal Sykes, who he was able to manipulate after pretending to offer a ride before killing her and keeping her polaroids as a trophy. Crystal's sister Shannah would go on to be haunted by Crystal's disappearance and went onto the FBI, specifically to help find missing girls and to uncover the truth of her sister's fate. Over the years, Kincaid married and became a family man, stopping his crimes to live a more modest life. However, he retained awareness that he'd be caught someday and kept the necessary things required for a clean getaway. He got rid of his polaroids when his daughter was old enough to find them.

When Shannah and Benson teamed up to investigate Maddie Flynn's kidnapping, Shannah got very aggressive during the investigation. Eventually, she confided in Benson about Crystal in confidence and how she sought to find the perpetrator. (SVU: "Zone Rouge")
Kincaid was found after it is revealed his daughter had run her DNA through a genealogy site and was discovered to have items that belonged to a victim. SVU inquired on an older male relative, and she pointed them to Kincaid who was celebrating his 40th wedding anniversary. SVU headed to the house, where their appearance alerted Kincaid who slipped away from the party, but he was caught by Captain Olivia Benson and the squad when he attempted to flee. Benson remarked that he seemed to be expecting this after going through his bag, before he was arrested and escorted away in front of his stunned family in cuffs. During the interrogation, Kincaid went against his lawyer's advice and confessed to the kidnappings and murders of several women, in the hopes of getting a plea that allowed him to see his grandchildren grow up. He showed the squad the locations of the bodies, including Crystal while going over each murder. He was later imprisoned for his crimes. (SVU: "Marauder")
