Rita Moreno (born Rosa Dolores Alverío; December 11, 1931) is a Puerto Rican actress, singer, and dancer. She is best known for her roles as Anita is the 1961 film adaptation of West Side Story, for which she won the 1962 Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and Carmen Sandiego in the 1994 animated series Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego?, which she would later reprise for the game Junior Detective and the planetarium film Universe. She later returned to the Carmen Sandiego Universe as Cookie Booker in the 2019 Netflix series Carmen Sandiego with Gina Rodriguez voicing the main character. She also starred in 2021 film version of West Side Story as Valentina (with Mike Faist).
Moreno starred in the 2017 version of the TV show One Day at a Time (with Stephen Tobolowsky). She also appeared as Jane Villanueva's (also played by Gina Rodriguez) paternal grandmother, Liliana De La Vega in Jane the Virgin (with Olivia d'Abo, Alison Fernandez and Andrea Navedo). She had previously starred on the TV show The Cosby Mysteries (with James Naughton).
She guest-starred on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Law & Order: Trial by Jury.
