Robin McLaurin Williams was an award-winning actor and comedian who played Merritt Rook in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 9 episode "Authority".
Williams was nominated for Academy Awards for his portrayals of Mr. Keating in Dead Poets Society (with Josh Charles and Robert Sean Leonard) and Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting (with Matt Damon and Scott William Winters) respectively, winning for the latter. He also won several Golden Globe Awards.
His first major role was on the TV series Mork and Mindy as Mork (with Jay Thomas); the show is a spin-off of Happy Days (with Henry Winkler). He also starred in many movies such as Popeye, Patch Adams (with Peter Coyote, Bob Gunton, and Philip Seymour Hoffman), Hook (with Julia Roberts), FernGully: The Last Rainforest (with Samantha Mathis), Aladdin (with Jonathan Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried), Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji (with Bebe Neuwirth), The Birdcage, Jack (with Fran Drescher, Brian Kerwin, and Adam Zolotin), What Dreams May Come (with Annabella Sciorra), One Hour Photo (with Gary Cole, Clark Gregg, Eriq La Salle, and Connie Nielsen), Night at the Museum, License to Wed (with John Krasinski), RV: Runaway Vacation, and Old Dogs. He returned to television briefly on the TV show The Crazy Ones (with Hamish Linklater).
Williams was nominated for an 2008 Emmy Award for his role on Special Victims Unit, but lost the award to actor Glynn Turman.
Robin Williams hanged himself on August 11, 2014, at the age of 63.
