Roddy Franklin is a football star and gambler and a brief suspect in the murder of college student Caroline Pereira.
Background[]
Franklin is a football legend who was caught seeing a stripper for a sexual tryst, which led to him buying his wife Angela a highly expensive diamond necklace to keep her around with their kids when the scandal broke. Franklin also had a gambling addiction, from celebrity to illicit poker games. The league caught him and penalized him, but that didn't stop him, so he kept his secret tighter concealed to not lose his career.
Class[]
Caroline was found strangled in a red light district. Her roommate Gloria Kulhane, who stole her ring, said it was Franklin's and insinuated he killed her which how much Caroline bragged about the win. Caroline and her silent partner had been scouting games for easy marks, which led to Caroline targeting Franklin and hustling through the game to get his ring. Franklin denied his relation to Caroline and was just glad to get his ring back, but when one of his favorite games in Newark was found, he caved and admitted the truth.
Franklin didn't kill Caroline, but he led detectives straight to the crime scene, an underground ring used as a base of operations for undercover agent Doug Kersten, known as "Riley", who scared Franklin more than the football league and more than Caroline infuriated him. Kersten admitted he moved Caroline from the scene to keep his cover, but he helped catch the real killers, Caroline's partner and childhood friend Adam Halder, who was in deep debts from Caroline's greed and overconfidence, and Kulhane, Adam's girlfriend who ordered the murder so Adam could spend his money on her.
