Roger Briggs was the husband of Lorraine Maxwell, who became involved in a sex trafficking investigation.

Background[]

Roger worked as a real estate agent but had little success over the years before he got married to Lorraine and they were seemingly happy. Unknown to her, he was secretly a pedophile and was funneling money from her to fund a sex trafficking ring of young girls for his wealthy associates at the Whitemere Club. He would cater to the club, while lying to his wife over his frequent absence to bring in more clients.

After enjoying breakfast with Lorraine, he tells her that he would be in late because he was hanging out with friends at the Whitemere Club. During his time there, Roger was alarmed when the wife of one of his associates barged in brandishing a shotgun and threatened a pleading Roger to get out of her way before she found her husband in a compromising position with the girls and shot him in the crotch, thus having the cops called and getting Special Victims Unit involved.

A detained Roger called out to Captain Olivia Benson, begging her to call his wife while she was shocked to see him among the club. SVU finds out about the club's involvement in a sex trafficking ring, Benson tells Bruno that they will catch Roger if he is involved. Benson then fills Carisi in on the case and adds that Roger was there but claimed he only had a drink. Maxwell then visits Benson and wants to know what is going on and becomes sure that Roger is innocent. During interrogation, Roger claims that he has nothing to hide, and he thought the girls were hostesses. While Bruno and Muncy try to get the other suspect to talk, the suspect claims that Roger is the mastermind behind the sex trafficking ring. Maxwell then orders Roger to be quiet until his lawyer arrives.

After Carisi manages to get a search warrant for Maxwell's house, Maxwell tells Benson to talk to Roger before they execute a search warrant. Benson tells Maxwell that she cannot be in the room. During questioning, Roger claims that the girls are hostesses and entertainers, and the girls were supposed to be a part of the scenery. The lawyer claims Roger's innocence before Roger tells the cops that him and Francis Fuller are in real estate venture and Francis is trying to blackmail him into selling his shares. After Muncy finds naked photos in Roger's locker, Roger claims that they were planted, but Benson apologizes before arresting him.

Maxwell then gets informed that Roger might have blackmailed the girls. Carisi then sets Roger's bail as 50,000 dollars before Roger's lawyer accuses him of attempting to get a promotion. Roger refuses a plea and insists that he is not guilty before Roger apologizes for putting Maxwell in the position that she is in, and he wanted to make his own way for once. Roger then tells Maxwell that if he goes down, she is going down with him. Later, Maxwell arrives home and finds that Roger had set up a romantic dinner. Roger insists that Maxwell would take his olive branch. Maxwell refuses to do so, but she agrees to have a drink. After Maxwell refuses to have dinner with Roger, Roger becomes abusive towards Maxwell and claims that she deserves to be humiliated. Roger then begins choking and falls to the floor while Maxwell watches. He dies before the ambulance could arrive. (SVU: "Bend the Law")
