Rosie Rinaldi is the daughter of ex-con Geno Parnell and the granddaughter of Frank Hagar. The mistakes of her mother Liz Rinaldi made lead to Rosie being kidnapped.

History[]

Rosie's father Parnell had been in and out of prison, partly from helping Hagar, his ex father-in-law, in several of his jobs as a master thief. Her mother had her own crooked habits, including covering for husband, Pete Rinaldi, when he was heavily indebted to his bookie from his gambling addiction. Parnell's record is what she used to get a restraining order on him so Rosie would be in her sole custody. Hagar was holding a diamond stash for a safe cracker, Jake, who stole it from a nearly-airtight safe in a brownstone. Unfortunately, Hagar was severely demented from Alzheimer's, and Liz found the stash without knowing he was supposed to sell the diamonds and stole it to pay the bookie. When Jake came back and wanted his cash, he realized the truth, terrorized Hagar into his panic room, and trashed his pawn shop, before saying to the senile Hagar he had two days to pay for the lost diamonds or he'd kill Rosie.

That night, when her babysitter Amy Sarkis is there with her boyfriend Greg, Jake answers the door pretending to be a cop. Clothed in black, he knocks out the two teens before kidnapping Rosie, who fights for her life, and smuggles her out the window of her room down the fire escape. Parnell is first suspected when footage shows him giving Rosie a birthday present and taking her hair clip to keep her close. He's exonerated in his alibi, and when hearing about Hagar, they find him and he, in his confusion and babbling, reveals the diamonds and the ransom demand.

Liz and Pete briefly divert the police demanding their own ransom to get out of town, as they still didn't pay the full gambling debt. But focusing on the heist itself, Hagar's competition, Eddy Mack, gives them a hidden message of who to find to get Jake's identity. That someone is professor Roy Batters, who, like Jake, was taught by Jake's father. When he gives Jake's name, the apartment he lives in is raided, he's arrested, and Rosie's found huddled in a closet. Elliot Stabler carefully coaxes her out and carried her outside to take to Parnell.

Rosie ends up in foster care because Liz and Pete are arrested by Connecticut state troopers, Hagar goes to a retirement home, and Parnell gets himself arrested from a deliberate hotel "stick-up" with an empty gun. This was because Mack was arranged to give Rosie 200 grand to take with her to the foster system, because Parnell found himself unfit to take care of her. (SVU: "Snatched")
