Roy Jonathan Barnett was a serial molester and a suspect in the sexual abuse of Sam Cavanaugh.

History

Barnett was arrested after A.D.A. Alex Cabot sent Detectives Benson and Stabler into Sam's apartment, without a warrant or consent from Sam's mother Linda, where they found videotapes of Barnett molesting and sodomizing Sam and five other victims. Despite his attorney's attempt to suppress the evidence and Judge Lena Petrovsky's reprimand towards the ADA, the evidence was upheld, thereby charging Barnett with six counts each of sodomy in the second degree, using of a child in a sexual performance, promoting an obscene sexual performance of a child, possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child, and sexual abuse in the second degree.

Barnett was subsequently convicted and sent to prison. Alex was suspended without pay for a month for issuing the illegal search, and Linda elected not to file a suit against her as such. (SVU: "Guilt")
