The eighteenth season of the police procedural drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit premiered on NBC on September 21, 2016 and concluded on May 24, 2017. The season consists of 21 episodes. It was the only season of SVU to not include any past or future main cast members or any characters from other shows in the franchise. It is also the only season to feature Rick Eid as showrunner. This season contains the 400th episode of the series.
