The ninth season of the police procedural drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit premiered on NBC on September 25, 2007 and concluded on May 13, 2008. The season consists of 19 episodes. Due to the 2007-08 Writer's Guild Strike, the season was cut short with most of the writing staff participating in the strike which resulted in new episodes not airing for nearly three months and an unknown number of episodes being scrapped, making it the first of three seasons to be cut short, the second being the twenty-first season and the third being the twenty-fifth season. This was also the last season to include Diane Neal in a main cast role, as well as the last season to include Adam Beach. It also includes the most main cast members in any season of SVU to date. This season also contains the 200th episode of the series. This season aired alongside with season eighteen of Law & Order and season seven of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
