Sal Avelino is a serial flash-and-dash rapist on the New York subways.

History[]

Avelino obsessively targeted white women of varied ages, preferring them in dresses and threatening them with a box cutter to make them compliant when blitzing them. By tracking the timing of the rapes and trace evidence, Avelino was successfully identified. But Jen Caulder, the last woman who was raped, identified Avelino in the lineup, then told the other women who were waiting for their IDs. This biased their judgment and led to the charges being thrown out in court.

When Sidra Lonstein, the one woman who was raped by Avelino months ago and ended up pregnant, was found, he was apprehended again for a DNA test. The results proved her nearly-born baby was Avelino's. When a cuffed Avelino saw her, he recognized her and spotting her pregnant stomach, he confessed in full right in front of her and the detectives, while stating something good would could from the rape. Avelino told her that hoped to be a family with her and their child after his release. This admission guaranteed the rape charge and Avelino's imprisonment. (SVU: "Contact")
