Saleh Amir was a former Taliban diplomat from Afghanistan and the father of murderer Jaleel Amir. He was wanted for the murder of his wife Aziza after his son was convicted of the murder of his daughter Nafeesa.
History[]
Saleh is questioned by Detectives Benson and Stabler, and he is present in court when Jaleel is charged for Nafeesa's murder. Eventually, it is revealed that Saleh had told Jaleel to kill Nafessa as she had dishonored their family by sleeping with another man when she was already engaged. This was considered an honor killing because, in their country, anyone who dishonors their family is immediately executed for doing so. In court, he is in the audience, and while Jaleel is being questioned, they repeatedly stare at each other.
ADA Cabot eventually pressures Jaleel, telling him that he isn't a real man for trying to run away after murdering Nafessa. Saleh looks a bit concerned but unfazed believing his son will be exonerated. However, to his shock and disappointment, Aziza testifies against their own son. She reveals that Saleh had told their son to murder their daughter. As a result of her testimony, Jaleel is found guilty of murder and sent to a American prison, much to Saleh's anger. Later on, SVU learns that Saleh left the U.S. alone. When Benson checks their room, she finds Aziza dead on their bed; Saleh had slit her throat for testifying against Jaleel. (SVU: "Honor")
