Law and Order

Seymour Bergreen is the founder of the Bergreen family-owned department store franchise and the patriarch of his family, even at their most unscrupulous and criminal.

History[]

Seymour had two daughters, Kate and Laura, who were co-CEOs of the Bergreen store chain. Kate was married to Richard Spiegel, who would be assigned CFO and have children with Kate. The business faced disasters, extending further than fashion designer Paul Medici suing the chain for fair represents his creations. Kate was having an affair with Medici, which led to Richard planning divorce and custody of their children, where the Bergreen family would be paying for support and alimony. Laura didn’t handle finances well, so with her poor management, she was near bankrupting the company and losing her job to replace her with someone who could clean up their messes.

The sisters wanted to save their pride more than everything else, so as Richard was the primary witness, Kate gave her gun to Laura and Laura shot Richard dead at one of their stores. Unable to bear losing his family, Seymour saw a chance when Kate was given immunity so Laura would be tried for the murder since she had more to lose. Seymour fudged up his testimony deliberately about his alibis for his daughters, confusing the jury as to who he was really covering for when he pretended to switch from Kate to Laura. Laura was acquitted even after Seymour confessed to his perjury.

Seymour’s legal status is left unknown given his culpability in the conspiracy. (L&O: "Family Business")
