In laser circumcisions schedule for the two brothers, Lucas' went awry and maimed his penis. The parents were manipulated by Dr. Preston Blair, a sex therapist, into transitioning Lucas into Lindsay, feeding him estrogen, and encouraging his gender as female. it was all part of Blair's experiments merely to publish a thesis, the worst of it being molesting the brothers by making them simulate sex with each other and showing them pornographic photos to control their "performance" so their programmed drives would "define" their assigned genders.
The twins grew up with problems in their childhood, with Logan doing community service for graffiti art and Lindsay fighting self-hatred and being harassed by their parents for dating a cisgender girl. When Lindsay tried to spray-paint her own street art to join Logan's crew, she was orally raped by gangbanger Luis Vega. She bit Vega's penis to defend herself, killing Vega from sending the thug stumbling back off the rooftop in pain onto a car. When gang activity was eliminated, the twins were tracked by graffiti. Logan was suspected since the twins had identical DNA results, but Lindsay provided Logan's alibi. When Logan lost it from not wanting Dr. Rebecca Hendrix as another shrink and Lindsay got violent with a candlestick to protect Logan, the twins were admitted for a psych committed to the parents' horror.
Lindsay revealed she was on the roof, and she told Logan in their twin language while in the ward. The parents were confronted with the twins' birth records when they were illegally unearthed, and after previously kicking the detectives out when being threatened with child endangerment charges, they emotionally admitted the twins' past and led the detectives to Blair. Lindsay was distraught from the truth, but she went back to being Luke when she cut her hair and dressed more masculine.
Logan then reported the twins molestation, and when Blair was out on bail, one of the twins bludgeoned him to death and spit on him while the other was at the movies. Their uncanny DNA, Luke's absent estrogen, and one of them having an alibi was a problem for the law, as they couldn't both be prosecuted except for individual crimes. Since the boys refused to turn on each other, they were released to pick up the pieces of their lives. (SVU: "Identity")
