Detective Terrence "Terry" Bruno is a detective with the Manhattan Special Victims Unit, having previously worked for the Bronx Special Victims Unit. He is an experienced, professional detective who is often underestimated by other NYPD members due to the troubled history of the Bronx SVU.

Background[]

Bruno was a major whistleblower against negligent and dirty cops in the NYPD, which cost the city millions to rectify. His superiors originally fired him, but he was eventually reinstated as one of the chief detectives in charge of the caseload. Despite the workload growing and organization being difficult, he did his best to maintain his unit, hoping to bring better work ethic and credit to his department and collaborate with other districts. Bruno has said one side of his family is Irish, the other Italian.

On SVU[]

After Captain Benson was attacked by members of the BX9 under Oscar Papa's orders, Bruno teamed up with her and Sergeant Tutuola to track down a serial rapist targeting deaf women, which nearly ruined his career when pushed for exonerating an innocent man behind bars a decade ago. (SVU: "Jumped In")

After Captain Mike Duarte was attacked by gang members under the orders of Oscar Papa, Tutuola requested to Benson that Bruno replace Detective Amanda Rollins in the unit. Not long after that, the squad found out that Duarte had succumbed to his injuries. (SVU: "Blood Out")

Benson then went through with Tutuola's request to hire Bruno. Bruno moved to the unit for a trial run and assisted the squad in tracking down a serial rapist and mass murderer who arranged car crashes and faked being an EMT to rape car accident victims. (SVU: "Intersection")

After Tutuola was held hostage by Ivan Hernandez, who reported he was raped whilst in prison, Bruno was requested by Tutuola to assist in finding his rapists. (SVU: "Dutch Tears")
